Wonderland Trail Fitness Plan
The Wonderland Trail Fitness Plan is designed for people who plan on successfully completing this 98-mile trail in the future. To prepare for long hiking trips, many people believe that “cardio is king”. We disagree. We acknowledge that cardio is useful for training, however, developing strength and power are equally (if not more) conducive for this particular trail. Due to the rapid increase and decrease of elevation in a single day, flat ground is a rarity on the WT. It is important to develop the necessary strength, power, stability, and balance for handling long, steep uphill and downhill bouts without injury. Not to mention, you will be carrying a heavy backpack! The Wonderland Trail Program will help you build full-body muscle and gain the muscular endurance needed for this difficult trail.
Equipment needed: Sled, Dumbbells, Barbells, Squat Rack, and access to cardio machines.
